What made the 80's slashers so good? For me there are so many of them and they don't seem liek teeny crap that has been coming out lately. The cheese, focusing on the killer more and they are much mroe fun. They don't try and be serious all the time it's more about a good time. What are your opinions?

I think the reason the 80's ruled was because they were releasing horor movies non-stop. We got quite a bit a year, though I would say that the 70's through mid-80's is what ruled. Back then we had classics like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, Halloween, Phantasm, etc. Because towards the end of the 80's it had started to slow down. As for "teeny crap" that you were refering to, what exactly do you call "teeny crap"? Scream was a great film there is no denying that. People will blame that film for starting the fall of horror, but what exactly did we get before Scream came out? Oh yeah, we got films like Halloween 6 (though it was an entertaining sequel) Jack Frost, Hellraiser 4. Nothing really special. Scream got more horror released, and in return it got films greenlighted that should have remained on the shelf. "Teaching Ms. Tingle" what a waste of an hour and a half that was.
And as for the "teeny crap" that has been coming out lately, Urban Legend, Urban Legends 2, I Know blah blah blah, and it's squel, were all films that came out a long time ago. It's 2002 now. We have now seen a different form or horror films being released. The last slasher we had was Valentine, and that was in the early part of 2001. Since then we've seen the return of the ghost movies, (ex. The Others, The Devil's Backbone) and we've seen the monster/werewolf/zombie movies return, (Jeepers Creepers, Ginger Snaps, Resident Evil, House of the Dead, Return of the Living Dead 4, Dead Reckoning) Those last two are still being worked on though. We've also got a film in the works that you and I are both looking forward to, House of 1,000 Corpses, which I think will bring back those films that are completely insane, like Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Though there are two slashers that are coming out this year, but from what I've heard they are both very good films, one of which I have seen and it is quite entertaining. Those films are Jason X and Halloween: Resurrection. Jason X is a good Jason movie, and Creature-Corner said that Halloween 8 is quite a surprisingly good sequel. They said that it was better than the pervious sequels. Of course, I think we will always see Michael, Jason, and Freddy. They are sort of the 80's remakes of Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Wolf Man.
As for the 80's, they were great, but you can't forget the 70's. Which was another great decade as well.

That's true. Though a lot of great slashers got their start from 70's films. Black Christmas spawned Halloween. Halloween spawned Friday the 13th. Still, it was a good decade for slashers.
