Some critics consider this a horror flick, some consider it a crime story. I say both.
I Spit On Your Grave is not really a forgotten favorite, but it hangs in their with some of the most ignored gory films of the eighties in my opinion. This flick is a geniune classic.
I'm sure most horror fans have seen it, but one of the things that I respected about this film, is that it never produced a sequel. Other crime stories/horror flicks that were the bomb are:
"Savage Streets" with Linda Blair
and "Chained Heat"

You have to see it then. This flick is real easy to find, but ignored by horror magazines.

A very good and quite strong movie about a young woman, who gets raped by a bunch of hillbillies over and over again, but she takes out her revenge...
I have this film, and in my opinion, this is even better than Last House On The Left.

dweller, if you think this movie was a classic, then we need to talk! i'm having second thoghts about you now!
the rape scenes were brutal and down right cruel..the revenge was lame.
this movie is just another piece of pornographic trash.

Bella Luna...
The thing that I like the most in this flick, is of course the revenge... (the castrating scene...ouch!)
I don´t likes these kind of movies for entertainment, but it gives quite a realistic view of how brutal people can be to others.

ullis, your right. these rape/revenge movies urk me, thats all. the revenge just never seems to be enough payback for the brutality of the rape. i'd like to see one where the tables are turned, i mean a man being the victim. men being exploited. you know what i mean? if you've ever seen such a movie, let me know.  |

Actually, the rape scenes are very harsh and the nudity is demeaning to women, but the strenth of the film is what I admired the most. The revenge factor was not enough, but then again, the directors would need more time to finish the movie.
If a movie was made, with the tables turned, I would watch it, it may be even better than I spit on your grave.

this was a really good film, u gotta look deep and see all the metaphors. it definitely isnt horror but moreso an exploitation art film.

Well all this talk about rape/payback/castration has got me wanting to really see this movie now. Real life rape is the most hideous of crimes, but I don't have any problems seeing it in a movie no matter how brutal (although not in those foreign adult anime films, makes my skin crawl for some reason). And if anyone hears of a film with the tables turned and a man is held captive, please please tell me.

There is a film where a man is held captive, it stars Sigourney Weaver. im not sure what the full name is but its The Mistress and the_______.

Okay Ladies! There is also a tables turned rape flick called Extremities with Farah Fawcet. I'm sure many of you have seen this one. The rapist was caught, tortured, and held captive in a homemade cave.
Good stuff.

Yes I did see Extremities.... thanks for reminding me of it. It was long ago, wonder if it was on HBO or something? If it's on vhs I'd like to see it again now that I'm old enough to really appreciate the irony of it. And Sigourney Weaver as a Mistress?! I can appreciate her kick-ass hotness and would love to see that! Maybe I should schedule a rape flick weekend.... start out with I Spit on your grave...... and end with Deliverance!!!! Oink Oink...
