ok, not a movie, but was wondering what your favorite scifi/fantasy/horror books are... what got me thinking about this was finding a book I haven't read in years last night by Piers Anthony... for me, it's hard to pick favorite book, I read so many good ones. it's easier to mention some authors and think about individual books for awhile....
in no particular order: Stephen King Dean Koontz Johnathon Saul Piers Anthony Peter Straub Robin Cook

My favorite author would have to be Stephen King. And my favorite book of his is The Stand.

My fave all time author is Stephen King too although he hasn't done much in recent years that I've enjoyed nearly as much as The Stand and It. I also love Koontz and have tons of his books. I used to read a lot of Saul books when I was younger like Comes the Blind Fury. Straub was just o.k. in my opinion but I've read all the Xanth books by Anthony and the Myth books by Crispin. Some day I want to tackle Battlefield Earth lol. Clive Barker is another great horror writer and I'm soooo into Laurel K. Hamilton now.

don't remember reading The Stand, but I loved IT! The made for tv movie they did of it was so bad! can remember looking forward to it and taping it and was sooo disappointed! first book I read by Koontz was Phantoms. daddy gave it to me and I made the mistake of reading it while I was babysitting. not a good idea at 1AM during a storm... but this was always my favorite one he wrote! I like Clive Barker too. haven't heard of Laurel K Hamilton...

I don't think there was any way they could have made the tv movie The Stand good enough. It was just too massive to fit on t.v. I did like the guy they got to play the devil though and I've always liked the actor who played Stu (can't think of his name at the moment). He was in Forrest Gump and lots of other stuff.
So weird Judi but I think Phantoms was the first I read too! There was also Whispers about the twins and Darkfall (was that the name, the voodoo one?) Those 3 stick out in my mind the most from when I was a kid. In recent years I loved the one where the guy could "jump" around and it had the hermaphrodite in it. Can you tell I'm baaaad at titles.
If you are into vampires and shapechangers (all kinds, not just wolves) you should try the first Hamilton Book about Anita Blake, Vampire Executioner. It's present day and humans share the world with supernatural stuff all trying to live together but also separately in their own communities. It gets VERY erotic too. I am totally addicted to this series right now.

sounds like a good series! I'll have to look for it! thanks!
my dad is really into Stephen King and Dean Koontz, so no wonder I used to read them too... even got my husband hooked on Koontz with Phantoms when we were dating... his whole family is into Stephen King....
I'm bad with titles too, except for certain ones I've read over and over...

<knocking myself upside the head> yeah I love Anne Rice too, I just got recently "Blood and Gold" - all about Marius - from the sci fi book club and Violin for only .50 cents at a second hand store! Most of her vampire books are great and I really got into the Mayfair witch/Taltos series of hers too. She has disappointed me a couple times like King has though.

unfortunately, even our favorite authors can write a disappointing book sometimes... they're only human... but that doesn't stop me from reading their next book to see how it is!!

My favorite author has always been Stephen King. I don't think his writing has been up to snuff for the last 2 or 3 years. I liked It, Delores Claiborne and Needful Things. The movies never do the movies justice. I think I just have alot of imagination! I like Robin Cook also. I haven't read anything of his in a couple of years. Sounds like i need to make a trip to the library and do some catching up.

Delores Claiborne was one of his better ones I thought too. I even enjoyed the movie with Kathy Bates. She is good in King movies and I hope she does more than the 2 I can think of. I've tried Robin Cook but I never really liked medical thrillers.
